What is VITRIFIED CHINA? Maryland's BEST Products manufactures a unique form of dinnerware far superior than the average consumer ware. Vitreous means "non-pourous" - completely solid. Gemware China is 100% completely vitrified. This means that should a piece ever crack or chip, bacteria will never become absorbed in the product. Fully 100% vitrified dinnerware is so durable you can place products from the freezer to a hot oven, microwave, dishwasher, on a flaming grill or hot broiler. Gemware China is also chip resistant and due to the completely solid/non-pourus properties of the clay and firing process, our product will stay hot or cold longer. You need to feel the weight of our products, like our coffee mugs. They are nice and heavy holding in the heat or cold, allowing your beverage of choice to stay hot or cold for a longer period compared to regular dinnerware. All dinnerware is vitreous to some degree. But only commercial dinnerware is 100% vitreous. Maryland's BEST Products even went the extra step of glazing the foot of all plates and serving pieces to protect table surfaces from scratching. Please take a peak at the bottom of our plates. This process is performed by placing the plate on small granite marbles and spraying the glaze from underneath. The marble impressions are not defects and do not effect the integrity of the product, it’s part of the manufacturing process.
